Mahashivratri 2022: Kedarnath To Baahubali, Bollywood Films Dedicated To Lord Shiva

From Kedarnath and Oh My God 2, to Baahubali and Brahmastra, let’s take a look at the films that celebrate the magical powers of Lord Shiva.

Just like action, romance and thriller, religion has always been a part of films in Indian cinema. From Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), to Oh My God (2012), and PK (2014), there have been a number of films with religion as the theme. Over the years, several films have been an ode to Lord Shiva as well. On Mahashivratri, let’s take a look at some of the movies that celebrate the magical powers of Lord Shiva.

Kedarnath

Released in 2018, Kedarnath is set against the backdrop of the Uttarakhand floods that took place in 2013. The Abhishek Kapoor film revolves around Hindu pilgrim Mukku (played by Sara Ali Khan) and a Muslim porter Mansoor (Sushant Singh Rajput), who fall in love during a trek to Kedarnath. Amit Trivedi’s soulful devotional song ‘Namo Namo’ from the film is perfect for Mahashivratri.

Baahubali

In Baahubali, Prabhas is seen playing a man named Shiva who grows up to be a Lord Shiva devotee. The character’s true devotion is displayed when he carries huge shivalinga on his shoulders. Baahubali also has a song ‘Kaun Hai Vo’ dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Shivaay

Another must-watch film on Mahashivratri. This Ajay Devgn starrer portrays Lord Shiva’s imperfections apart from his goodness. Shivaay, a mountaineer, smokes, drinks bhaang, kills people, and then realises his mistakes. When he gets violent, he is terrible; but this is how humans are. The title track of the film ‘Bolo Har Har’ is also dedicated to Lord Shiva and the movie is indicative of Lord Shiva being the destroyer of all evil.

Satellite Shankar

Satellite Shankar saw Sooraj Pancholi teleporting his fellow jawaans to their near and dear ones using a device that has something to do with Lord Shiva. The film was helmed by Irfan Kamal.

Brahmastra

Ayan Mukerji is coming up with a big-budget film Brahmastra dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the film, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen playing the role of a character named Shiva who has special powers. Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt are also a part of the movie.

Akshay Kumar will be playing the role of Lord Shiva in Oh My God 2. The first poster shows the actor in blue, with his eyes closed and hair in dreadlocks. Seen written on the poster are the words “Rakh Vishwas, Tu hai Shiv ka das.” The second poster shows a blue hand, probably of the god, holding the hand of a young boy.
