Madhur Bhandarkar is not happy with Karan Johar and the upcoming Netflix reality TV series Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. The Fashion filmmaker recently shared on social media that the title of the series is similar to a project he is working on. Madhur Bhandarkar also went on to request Karan Johar and Apurva Mehta to change the show’s name since they’re the makers.
The director alleges that Johar and Mehta wrote to him and requested the title Bollywood Wives for the web-series which features Sohail Khan’s spouse Seema Khan, Sanjay Kapoor’s wife Maheep Kapoor, Chunky Pandey’s wife Bhavana Pandey and Neelam Kothari, who is married to Samir Soni.
Madhur Bhandarkar states that he refused their request and that Karan Johar and Apurva Mehta went ahead with the project and named it Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives.
Madhur Bhandarkar’s Tweet
“Please do not dent my project. I humbly request u to change the title,” Bhandarkar wrote in a tweet.
“It is Morally & ethically wrong u to tweak it to #TheFabulousLivesofBollywoodWives (sic),” he added.
The complaint against Dharma Productions
According to Times of India, Bhandarkar has also filed a complaint against Dharma Productions with the Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA). Bhandarkar’s last film was 2017’s Indu Sarkar which starred Kirti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher, Tota Roy Chowdhury, and was a box office failure. It wasn’t a favourite with the critics either.
Netflix’s Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives will premiere on the OTT platform on 27 November.
In related news, Karan Johar kicked off Bollywood’s Diwali parties and invited a handful of his friends.
Those in attendance at the Karan Johar Diwali party were the iconic Kareena Kapoor Khan, the stunning Malaika Arora, Manish Malhotra, and Maheep Kapoor.
The 2020 Diwali party was exceptionally low-key given the fancy parties that we’re used to seeing every year. However, with the pandemic and the social media (and sometimes, electronic media) trolling of Bollywood this year following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, it’s only understandable that Johar wouldn’t want to draw undue attention to himself or his friends.
