Global multi-genre music festival Lollapalooza will finally make its way to India in January 2023 — joining the likes of Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, and Sweden.

The festival kicked off in Chicago back in 1991, and continues to hold its big-name acts at the original venue before travelling across the world. India happens to be the eighth host country to join the festival and is the only Asian one to do so.

Global producers Perry Farrell, WME, and C3 Presents joined forces with BookMyShow to launch the festival in India. Here’s what the Indian ticketing giant had to share:

“Iconic music festival Lollapalooza sets to breach a new frontier in what will be the eighth destination of the festival in Mumbai, India, bringing with it – its brand of unique, diverse, and exciting flavours from the world of music. Lollapalooza India will be a two-day musical extravaganza held in the heart of Mumbai on January 28-29, 2023.”

A YouTube channel for Lollapalooza was also launched, featuring a promotional video for the Mumbai venue:

Lollapalooza will be open to over 60,000 fans according to BookMyShow, and feature four stages with ‘over 20 hours of unforgettable live music’ from global and local artists, along with exhibits for food, art, fashion, and more.

Sources have also told us that the festival will feature artists similar to the lineups we’ve seen so far for Brazil’s Lollapalooza editions — which kicked off a decade ago in 2012. With that in mind, here’s who we’re hoping to see come January 2023!

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Famous for headlining the festival in multiple countries and appearing nearly 10 times since the 1990s, this is one epic band that we’re really hoping to see in India, soon. They’ve even got an album on the way — so this one would absolutely take the cake.

Anderson .PAAK

The producer-rapper-singer has also graced stages at multiple ‘Paloozas, bringing the house down during iconic shows at Stockholm, Chile, and Brasil.

Mac DeMarco

Another awesome talent who toured South America’s Lollapaloozas back in 2018, DeMarco would easily be one of the best singer-songwriters to make it into Indian stages — if he comes by. Fingers crossed.

Pearl Jam

Another classic Lollapalooza outfit, Pearl Jam — much like RHCP — has rocked out at the festival since the nineties, and has, in fact, just performed at this year’s Paris edition on July 17.

Metronymy

Another feature from the 2018 Brazil festival — which seems like a real riot now that I think about it — this understated, English electropop group would be a welcome sight in Mumbai next year.

Arctic Monkeys

This one would be absolutely huge. With a massive base of Indian fans, plenty of past-Palooza performances in the bag, and barely any ground covered in Asia, it’s high time the ‘Monkeys make their way to Mumbai in January.

Honestly, the list could go on and on — so let’s stop for a moment and listen to what the promoters have to say:
