7 Memorable Sikh Characters Who Raised The Bar In Bollywood

Laal Singh Chaddha aside, these portrayals have been equally impressive

Excitement levels have piqued around Laal Singh Chaddha, which is slated for release in theatres on August 11. Laal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi remake of Tom Hank’s Forrest Gump, and fans can finally get to see Mr. Perfectionist in an all-new avatar. While Laal has already made a place in people’s hearts, he is not the first Sikh character in Bollywood to do so.

In fact, Bollywood has always harbored a fascination toward Sikh characters, long before Laal Singh Chaddha was made. Here’s a peek into some of the best portrayals of all time!

Rocket Singh

The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Rocket Singh saw him play the role of a hardworking salesman. His story from rags to riches and going back to square one made for a heartwarming watch. The innocence, keenness, and witty nature of Rocket Singh made the character so likable.

The Legends Of Bhagat Singh

Nothing works like a patriotic film. And, when it’s about revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, the audience has your attention. Ajay Devgn played the titular role so well that people still consider it one of his best performances.

Bhaag Milka Bhaag

One of the fittest Sikh characters that we saw on screen, Farhan Akhtar totally aced his part as Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Akhtar caught the essence of being Sikh with precision and his moves in Slow Motion Angreza will always make us smile.

Singh Is Kinng

Happy Singh makes everyone happy. And, it applies to the audiences as well. The crazy energy that Kumar brought to the role was infectious and memorable. His chemistry with Katrina Kaif was something that fans couldn’t help but gush over.

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

Sunny Deol has played many Sikh characters but our all-time favorite remains his role as Tara Singh in Gadar. Great chemistry with Ameesha Patel aside, Deol essayed the role with utmost honesty and dedication and that clearly shows in the movie.

The Accidental Prime Minister

Anupam Kher is a force to reckon with, and amongst the many films he has worked on, The Accidental Prime Minister remains one of his best performances. His immaculate depiction of former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh in the film was commendable. The movie was an instant hit amongst the audience.

Love Aaj Kal

Saif Ali Khan’s portrayal of Veer Singh Panesar in Love Aaj Kal remains one of our favorite Saif movies to date! Khan exuded his signature charm and youthful energy in his role that won hearts! While at it, Khan also did his homework well in this Box Office hit.

Coming back to Laal Singh Chaddha, the film also marks Kareena Kapoor Khan’s reunion with Aamir Khan after 3 Idiots! Well, well, we’re as excited as you are!
