When he’s not busy beefing with Kanye (or Ye), Kid Cudi is known to put out some of the best albums in the rap industry (although, I might be biased). Today, expanding his portfolio, the music producer and rapper showcased the trailer of his forthcoming animated television special called Entergalactic.
Scheduled to stream on Netflix this 30th, the special will be released in conjunction with the musician’s new album of the same name. Presented in a slick animation style, which reminds us of the Spider-Verse movies, the special seems to follow a pretty formulaic story of a boy meeting a girl in the backdrop of New York City.
Here’s what the plot synopsis looks like – Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi and Kenya Barris join forces to present Entergalactic, an original, animated story about a young artist named Jabari – voiced by Mescudi – as he attempts to balance love and success. Finding the latter brings Jabari a step closer to the former when moving into his dream apartment introduces him to his new neighbor, photographer it-girl, Meadow – voiced by Jessica Williams. An explosion of art, music, and fashion, Entergalactic takes place in the only city that can handle all three: New York.”
Starring Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) himself, the short packs a loaded cast of actors and musicians like Ty Dolla $ign, Timothée Chalamet, Christopher Abbott, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Teyana Taylor, Arturo Castro, Macaulay Culkin, and more. Featuring opposite Cudi will be Jessica Williams who was seen in the last two Fantastic Beasts movies.
When asked if the story in some way reflects his own life, Cudi wrote on Twitter back in 2019, saying “Entergalactic is a fantasy, it’s what I wish I had. I live a very lonely life, but I have hope I’ll find someone someday.”
On that downer of a note, here’s what the internet has been saying about it.
