Hear ye, hear ye! The Kung-fu Kenny is back with his new song, “The Heart Part 5.” Kendrick Lamar has officially dropped his new track, days ahead of his highly-anticipated new album – Mr Morale & The Big Steppers, which comes out this Friday on May 13.
The 32-year old rapper has been on a musical hiatus ever since his last solo album DAMN, which debuted all the way back in 2017. Since then, K-dot has periodically worked on part of the Black Panther soundtrack back in 2018 and featured in Baby Keem’s track – Family Ties.
Six months ago, Kendrick confirmed that he’ll be leaving his long time collaborators Top Dawg Entertainment, making this the last album under the TDE umbrella. In a social media post, the Compton-based rapper wrote, “As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years.”
He added, “The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.”
A music video was released alongside the track. The clip, directed by Dave Free and Kendrick Lamar, has Lamar’s face morphing into the likes of O.J. Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, Will Smith and Nipsey Hussle. The video which has already crossed over 4 million views since yesterday has already been garnering reactions over the internet.
