In a tweet addressed to his fans, comedian Kapil Sharma has shared news of his apparent patch-up with actor Akshay Kumar, following a recent controversial clip that leaked online.
The trouble stirred up when, in a previous episode, Sharma brought up Kumar’s 2019 interview with Prime Minister Modi by taking a dig at the actor’s willingness to talk about mangoes rather than serious sociopolitical issues. The interview had gone viral ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, drawing up massive criticism and debate on Indian social media.
Sharma’s home channel Colors TV was approached by the actor after the episode’s shoot, with a request to edit the question from the recording. The channel obliged, but the question made its way online.
“Akshay took all of Kapil’s jokes head-on but the dig on the PM interview seemed to mock the dignity of such a high office. So Akshay requested the channel to not air that question. It is a right of the guests to make such a request as the show is not live. The channel agreed, but the said scene was leaked on the internet soon after. It was a breach of trust on the part of someone in Kapil’s team, and Akshay sought a clarification before he appears on the show again,” a source told Hindustan Times.
This clarification seems to have been solidified according to Sharma’s tweet, although fans and critics have a lot to say about it. Some used the moment to make fun of the actor, asking Sharma to repeat his question on the next episode:
Fans of the actor shared goodwill messages, and some of them even asked to be on the next episode:
One user even suggested that Sharma made the wrong move by bowing over, and should have instead waited for Kumar’s team to bury the hatchet:
Akshay Kumar has an upcoming movie that is set for a March 18th release. TItled Bachchan Pandey, the movie is directed by Farhad Samji, and it also stars Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi and Pankaj Tripathi.
