It’s been a good day for hip-hop fans. Along with Kendrick Lamar dropping his new song and FX announcing a new Tupac Shakur documentary, Kanye West has now released a new music video called “Life of the Party”.
The Chicago rapper released the music video on Mother’s Day, as a homage to his mom, Donda West, whom his latest album is named after. Kanye, now known as ‘Ye,’ also took the opportunity to incorporate his upcoming ‘Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collection’ during the announcement.
A press release shedding more light on both the video and the collection read, “In a seamless alignment between Ye’s creative platforms[,] new visuals bridge the multidisciplinary artist’s past and future. Photos from Ye’s childhood have been updated to inlay pieces from the forthcoming Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga creative exploration.”
“Life of the Party” was a part of Kanye West’s new latest album and features a verse from none other than Andre 3000. The newly released video tracks Kanye’s life from birth to childhood and includes milestones such as the rapper’s birthdays and graduation.
Photos of his mother, Donda, can be seen sprinkled throughout the two-minute clip, which ends with his mom encouraging her son’s freestyling skills and saying “Get on down, Kanye!”
Donda West passed away in November 2007 after suffering complications during a cosmetic procedure. The 44-year old rapper has heavily documented his mourning and grief on many of his albums like 808s and Heartbreak, as well as the more recent DONDA and DONDA 2.
