For the uninitiated, actor Kamaal R Khan is an active Twitter user whose constant digs at Bollywood and its insiders often puts him in the spotlight (for not really good reasons, btw). Turns out, the actor’s vicious ways on the networking platform have led to an arrest. Khan was arrested as soon as he landed at the Mumbai airport today. A complaint was reportedly filed against him in Mumbai’s Malad Police Station by Rahul Kanal, a man who identifies himself as a member of Yuva Sena. Khan was arrested under sections 153A, 294, 500, 501, 505, 67, and 98 of the IPC act. The actor will soon have to appear before the Borivali court.
The incident, which led to the arrest, dates back to the year 2020, when Khan tweeted about deceased veterans Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor.
At a time when Kapoor was hospitalized shortly before his demise, Khan quipped that the actor shouldn’t die so soon as the liquor shops were just about to open. In a similar instance, a day before Irrfan Khan died, Kamaal dropped yet another derogatory comment about the National Film award-winning star that clearly didn’t go down well with fans.
Confirming the news of Khan’s arrest, Kanal released a statement that read, “Kamal R Khan has been arrested today on my complaint. I welcome this move by the Mumbai police. He makes derogatory comments on social media and uses foul language. Such kind of behavior is unacceptable in society. By arresting him, Mumbai police have sent out a strong message against such people.”
Another statement by the Mumbai police officials followed: “We have registered an FIR against Kamaal R Khan for making derogatory remarks about both the deceased actors under section 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words in public) and other provisions of the IPC.”
Khan has received a lot of flak in the past due to the vicious nature of his tweets, but that had never really stopped him.
Not too long ago, Khan held actress Anushka Sharma accountable for Virat Kohli’s depression. The tweet irked fans to the extent that it was finally taken down by Kamaal himself. But now that the self-proclaimed critic has been arrested, it appears to be a meme fest on the internet.
KRK began his career with Sitam, as a producer in 2005, and forayed into acting with movies like Munna Pandey Berozgaar and Ek Villian. Khan participated in Bigg Boss 3 in 2009, where he repeated his caustic behavior. In 2019 and 2020, he featured in a few missable music videos named Tum Meri Ho and Pyaar Ka Naam Khuda Rakkha Hai.
