Justin Timberlake had been headlining the news ever since the documentary about Britney Spears premiered online. Titled Framing Britney Spears, the documentary talked about how the Toxic singer’s relationship with Timberlake affected her emotionally and mentally. Fans were agitated and demanded the Mirror singer to apologise to Spears for ruining her career. When these discussions gained popularity, talks about Timberlake’s 2004 Super Bowl performance with Janet Jackson, in which she suffered a nip slip, also surfaced online. After the backlash, the singer, in February, posted a lengthy message on Instagram and apologised for whatever happened in the past. People moved on from the topic but then the stylist who prepped Jackson’s look for her infamous 2004 Super Bowl appearance with Timberlake spilled the beans on how the singer wanted the wardrobe malfunction to happen. The stylist revealed that Timberlake wanted to outdo Britney Spears, Madonna and Christina Aguilera scandalous kissing scene at the MTV Video Music Awards, and hence pushed for the “wardrobe malfunction.”

Wayne Scot Lukas told Page Six that the singer “insisted on doing something bigger than their performance. He wanted a reveal.” Lukas continued, “Janet was going to be in a Rocha dress, and Justin was going to step on the back of her dress to reveal her butt in pearl G-string, inspired by the one that Kim Cattrall had worn in an episode of Sex and the City, but the outfit changed a couple of days before, and you saw the magic.”

Timberlake famously labelled the incident a “wardrobe malfunction.” but Lukas agrees to disagree. “I wouldn’t call it a wardrobe ‘malfunction’ in a million years. It was the most functioning wardrobe in history. As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do,” he said. He also revealed that it was the singer’s recent apology to Jackson, that made him open up about the incident after 17 years. Scot Lukas is also working on a tell-all book in which he will narrate the incident in full for the first time. He plans to reveal other dark secrets from the worlds of fashion and show business with this book as well.
