Thanks to television, we have some amazing childhood memories. If there was anything we liked more than cartoons, it was T.V. shows that made us laugh and had a way to keep us hooked. From Shaka Laka Boom Boom to Khichdi, these were gems that families loved to watch together. Here are some of them that defined our childhood.
Khichdi
Khichdi was a show that gave not only kids but even adults an amazing dose of entertainment and laughter. It revolved around amusing members of a Gujarati family who tackled their small and big everyday problems in an untypical manner. It was so loved by the audience that it had multiple seasons and later on movies too based on the same plot.
Takeshi’s Castle
Admit it, you all wanted to be a part of this show as a kid. People falling, slipping, toppling over each other and some more people falling — every minute of the show was so much fun, we could watch the same episode over and over again. And Jaaved Jaffrey’s commentary was pure hilarity.
Shaktimaan
India’s very own and first superhero was none other than Shaktimaan. Actor Mukesh Khanna immortalised the role of Shaktimaan and back then, when the concept of superheroes was not as explored as today, Shaktimaan was absolutely amazing and the one we still cherish.
Just Mohabbat
A show that was a step towards modern television, Just Mohabbat explored the problems and challenges a kid faces in his life amidst complex relationships with friends and family. The show was a runaway hit, and though it took a leap with the protagonist growing up, it did not work as much as it did with the kid.
Shakalaka Boom Boom
Who can forget Sanju and his magic pencil? That one pencil with which he could draw anything and it would become real. The endless list of evil characters who wanted the pencil mixed with the fun adventures of Sanju and his friends made the show a hit amongst kids.
Karishma Ka Karishma
This was a show about Vikram (scientist) who designs a robot kid called Karishma. Based on the popular show, Small Wonder, each character in this Hindi adaptation was memorable and had amazing comic timing with the perfect blend of cuteness.
Son Pari
This is an all-time favourite show of all ‘90s kids. A pretty fairy, a funny genie, an innocent girl with daily family issues, and lots of magic that began with a simple magic crystal ball.
Shararat
This was the one show that every kid from the ‘90s must have seen. The story revolves around Jiya, her granny, and her mother. All three had magical powers that created many hilarious problems. At that time, Karanvir Bohraa, who played Dhruv (Jiya’s love interest), became TV’s heartthrob as well.
Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai
We all remember this show for its hilarious characters. The story revolves around the Sarabhai family. The main characters include sophisticated Maya, her funny husband, Indravadan, intelligent Sahil, mama’s boy Rosesh (their son), and the middle-class Monisha (Sahil’s wife). There are multiple reasons why we still miss the show; Rosesh’s poetry is surely one of those.
Hip Hip Hurray
Hip Hip Hurray is another classic Indian show that has been an absolute favourite of the generations. The story is based on the lives of 12th-grade students at the DeNobili High School and their adventures, fears, hopes and relationships. Besides that, the story also focuses on issues pertinent to the younger generation such as dating, careers, health, exams, and causes in a light-hearted manner. The series is available on Zee5.
Tu Tu Main Main
In the age when our audience were inundated with saas-bahu dramas, this popular sitcom starring Reema Lagoo, Supriya Pilgaonkar, and Mahesh Thakur came as a much-needed breath of fresh air. Tu Tu Main Main is a hilarious comedy between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Hum Paanch
This sitcom is touted to be an all-time favourite comedy and enjoyed a massive fan following. Starring Ashok Saraf, Vidya Balan, Rakhee Tandon, Bhairavi Raichura, Vandana Pathak, Hum Paanch revolved around the family of Anand Mathur, his wife Bina, and their five daughters and their hilarious adventures in different situations.
