Jaya Bachchan has just had it with the demonization of the Hindi film industry which has been called some colourful names on Twitter and on TV media in the past few months.
In a statement in Parliament, Bachchan defended her industry via a strong statement stating that the industry always supports government initiatives and brings international acclaim, and yet, because of a few bad apples, its name is being tarnished.
Actors Taapsee Pannu, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, and filmmaker Anubhav Sinha were among the Bollywood stars who came out in strong support of her statement.

“For we have always stood by the initiatives, causes, and awareness campaigns. It’s time for payback. Hitting the nail on its head and how! Yet again a woman from the industry spoke up,” wrote Pannu on Twitter.
“I want to be her when I grow up,” wrote Kapoor on the microblogging platform.
Although the actor took no names during her statement in the Rajya Sabha, it was evident that she was referring to Marathi actor and Lok Sabha MP Ravi Kishan’s allegation that several people in the industry are addicted to drugs.
“The NCB has been doing very good work. I urge the central government to take strict action against the culprits soon. Give them a befitting punishment and bring an end to this conspiracy by neighbouring countries,” Kishan had said.
“Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the whole industry… I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday one of our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke against the film industry,” Bachchan said in her statement.
The Producers Guild of India has also issued a statement applauding the actor for taking a stand for her industry.
