Shashank Khaitan directed film Dhadak has been garnering major buzz lately. The film which is produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar and Apoorva Mehta stars first-timers Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar in the lead roles. Dhadak is based on the iconic Marathi film Sairat which highlighted the stringent practice of casteism. However, Khaitan’s film leaves out the caste angle and plays with the rich girl-poor boy narrative – a move that hasn’t been received very well on social media.
The Dhadak title track was released on Wednesday at 12:30 pm and is steadily garnering praise on Twitter. Ajay Gogavale’s smooth, dulcet tones complement Shreya Ghoshal’s melodious voice beautifully. The song starts out slow and soars as it continues. Amitabh Bhattacharya proves yet again why he is one of the top lyricists in the country. The video plays up the romantic quotient between the lead couple – a smart move considering the duo practically ooze charm. The 3.35-minute track could just be the ultimate romantic number of the year.
The trailer of the film was received well. It’s worth mentioning that both the newbies have done a satisfactory job in getting the dialect right and delivering it with ease. We also get a glimpse of their dancing skills where the Hindi adaptation of the famous track ‘Zingaat’ is played in the trailer. The 3.03-minute clip looked promising with the two actors sharing some crackling chemistry but it was the title track which left netizens spellbound.
“It hasn’t been an easy experience. My work and my family have given me the strength to go on. If it wasn’t for coming back to the sets of Dhadak or being able to act, I think it would have been much tougher than what it is now. I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to work in the film and act. It saved me in many ways,” Kapoor told India Today regarding working on the film post mother Sri Devi’s death.
