The host of the Late Late Show, James Corden, has been subjected to BTS Army’s distress as the former joked about the group’s UN appearance. The septet consisting of RM, Jin, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook recently delivered a speech at the UNGA’s Sustainable Development Goals Moment and also performed their hit song, Permission to Dance at the Assembly hall, and the grounds outside. Corden, later on his show, mocked BTS’ address by terming it ‘unusual’, and further generalised the Army to a group of ‘15-year-old teenage girls’.

“The United Nations General Assembly kicked off this morning in New York City, and it started with some pretty unusual visitors… BTS were there. BTS visited the UN… Although lots of people are saying why are BTS there, the world leaders have no choice but to take BTS seriously. BTS has one of the largest ARMY on the planet earth. Historic moment. It actually marks the first time that 15 year old girls everywhere found themselves wishing that they were Secretary General António Guterres,” Corden said.

Although the two entities share a great camaraderie, Corden’s comments aggravated the Army to a level where they have blacklisted the talk show host. A BTS fanatic wrote, “James Corden, as a teenage girl myself I just want to take a moment to say leave us alone. I’m not brainless for liking a boy band, and neither does me liking a boy band invalidate their achievements. Stop using my gender and age as a way of mocking other people and what they do.”

BTS have had a fair share of iconic moments at Corden’s show, be it the celebrated Carpool Karaoke (which has accumulated over 88 million views within a year of its release), or a fun game of Hide-and-Seek on the CBS set. The group has had multiple appearances on the show, making them a late night favorite. However, it will be interesting to see how their relationship progresses post this controversy. Music wise, 2021 has been a great year for BTS as their singles, Butter and Permission To Dance have been topping the charts. The group recently created headlines over their collaboration named ‘My Universe’ with the hit band Coldplay.
