It looks like Bollywood’s latest favourite approach to film-making is sequels. In the recent past, we have seen several second instalments of classic films, with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 being the biggest example, and it looks like the trend is set to continue. Let’s rewind to 2003. Shahid Kapoor’s debut film, Ishq Vishk, which is still considered to one of his best performances, is now getting a sequel. Yes, Ishq Vishk Rebound is headed our way.
Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Films has greenlit a sequel to the 2003 film which also starred Amrita Rao, and Shehnaz Treasurywala in the lead roles.
Ishq Vishk Rebound stars new faces like Rohit Saraf, along with Hrithik Roshan’s cousin, Pashmina Roshan. She will be making her debut with the film. Along with this duo, we will see Naila Grewal as the second female lead. She has previously worked on projects like Thappad. Joining them will be Jibraan Khan, who played Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s son Krish in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
While the cast is excited to tell the audience a new story, many people on the internet were not very impressed with the news. Some felt that yet another classic is being ruined. Twitteratis shared their views on the reboot:
The Ken Ghosh directed movie was about how Rajiv, played by Shahid Kapoor, is on a quest to become the most popular kid in college and his on-again-and-off-again relationship with Payal, played by Amrita Rao. It was also remade into an Indonesian film called Cinta Gak Kemana. The music for the film was composed by Anu Malik and the song “Aisa Kyoon Hota Hai“ became a roaring hit that year.
Ishq Vishk Rebound is being helmed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari and produced by Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Films. The film has already gone on floor and it is expected to release in 2023.
