Independent Spirit Awards Calls Out Vladimir Putin For Ukraine War
Independent Spirit Awards: Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Kristen Stewart Give Putin The Middle-Finger Salute

“Specifically, fuck off and go home, Putin,” said Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally at the Independent Spirit Awards

Independent Spirit Awards was a starry affair with our favourites bagging awards for their hard work. Squid Game, Drive My Car, and other such projects bagged titles in different categories during the award night. However, the highlight became the moments when celebs took a stand for Ukraine and extended their support to its people.

The award night’s hosts, Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, addressed the Ukraine-Russia conflict as soon as they got a chance.

Just after they returned from a commercial break, Offerman said, “Before we keep going, we’d like to take a minute to extend our best wishes to those affected by the war in Ukraine, and all unjust conflict around the world.”

Mullally added, “I think we speak for everyone here when we say we are hoping for a quick and peaceful resolution. Specifically, fuck off and go home, Putin.”

“Yes, that is the quick and peaceful resolution we’re talking about,” Offerman added. “That Vladimir Putin fucks off and goes home. And to that end, let’s all join together and send him off with a Spirit Awards salute: to Putin!”

The “Spirit Awards salute” was simply the middle finger to the Russian autocrat. Offerman and Mullally asked the entire crowd to join them. Kristen Stewart was one of the many stars who was seen giving Putin the finger. The hosts then urged the attendees of the Independent Spirit Awards and the viewers to donate to organizations assisting the Ukrainian citizens .

Earlier, at the Screen Actors Guild awards, Brian Cox also criticised Putin and offered support to artists living in Russia. “I think we should all stand together. And also for those people in Russia who don’t like what’s going on, particularly the artists, I think we should really join in celebrating them and hoping they can actually make a shift, as I believe they can,” he said.
