HBO has dropped a new trailer for its Game of Thrones prequel series, called the House of the Dragon. The very brief teaser (a-minute-and-a-half) give us a quick look into the complicated politics of Westeros and all the houses vying to claim the Iron Throne.
The 10-episode series which starts on August 21, will be exclusively available on Disney+ Hotstar. For the uninitiated, House of the Dragon will be set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and will extensively cover the Targaryen civil war, known as the ‘Dance of the Dragon’
The HBO series consists of a fairly star-studded cast of Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Paddy Considine, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. What going to be more exciting is that it’ll be partly helmed by Miguel Sapochnik, who’s been responsible for some of the best episodes in the series, like ‘Hardhome,’ and ‘Battle of the Bastards.’
Adding further excitement, author George R.R. Martin seems to be happy with how the prequel is shaping up to be. Back in February, when the series had completed filming, he posted a note on his blog:
“I have seen rough cuts of a few of them, and I’m loving them,” Martin wrote. “Of course, a lot more work needs to be done. Special effects, colour timing, score, and all the post-production work. But the writing, the directing, and the acting all look terrific. I hope you will like them as much as I do. My hat is off to [showrunners] Ryan [J. Condal] and Miguel [Sapochnik] and their team, and to our amazing cast.”
