This week has been a big one for Netflix. With Adam Sandler’s new movie Hustle, garnering rave reviews and Stranger Things season 4 hitting its former stride, the OTT platform’s ship seems to be steadying. The Netflix Geeked Week was also underway and a host of announcements were sent your way. Along with many, many animated titles, the streaming platform also announced a bunch of interesting live-action movie projects. Here’s a quick rundown of them.
1) Troll – TBA
If you’ve ever wondered what a behemoth live-action troll would look like, well here’s your chance. But first, ask yourself this: Just how big do you think this troll might be? Same size as the one in Harry Potter? No. As big as the T-Rex from Jurassic Park? Nope. This one is Godzilla-sized! Not much was revealed at Netflix Geeked Week, and neither was the movie’s release date, but we do know that it is helmed by the director, Roar Uthaug, who directed the 2018 Tomb Raider movie, starring Alicia Vikander.
2) Day Shift – August 12th
Who doesn’t want to see more of Jamie Foxx on the small screen? Well, the kind folks at Netflix seem to have taken this into consideration. The studio showcased a brief behind the scene footage of Day Shift, which sees Jamie Foxx cleaning swimming pools during the day and hunting vampires at night. From the looks of it, it either has the potential to be one of the best originals to come out on Netflix or one of its biggest duds.
3) Blasted – June 28th
Don’t you hate it when you’re playing paintball with the boys and aliens invade? If you do end up in a similar situation, the studio’s new movie Blasted should sort you out. As mentioned earlier, the premise here is simple. Defeat aliens with nothing but paintball guns (the movie isn’t set in America). Oh, did we mention it has the tagline “bros before UFOs”?
4) Wendell and Wild – October
From the mind of Jordan Peele comes yet another story, and this time in a stop-motion form. Called Wendell and Wild, the movie is being described as an “animated tale about scheming demon brothers who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot, a tough teen with a load of guilt, to summon them to the Land of the Living.” Don’t know about you, but that sounds like a perfect Halloween watch to me.
