It all started with Paoli Dam’s sizzling performance in Hate Story which released in 2012. It was a tale of revenge with some terrible acting and dialogues, but what stood out were the steamy sex scenes which were bold with a capital B.

“When Vivek (Agnihotri) spoke to me, he asked me one thing, “Do you have any inhibitions in your mind?”, and I said no,” Paoli Dam said in an interview with DNA. If you look at these videos, it’s apparent that she had none.

Then came, Surveen Chawla (she had previously appeared in TV shows like Kahiin Toh Hoga) starrer Hate Story 2 in 2014. The hottest thing about the film was the video (Aaj Phir Tum Pe Pyaar Aaya Hai) featuring Surveen and Jay Bhanushali. The song was tastefully shot and became quite popular, even though the film failed to rock the box office like the first installment.

“I have no inhibitions in doing intimate scenes. I am comfortable because romance is my favourite genre. I don’t take those scenes as something out-of-the-box. It is equally tough or easy as any emotional scene in a film could be. When I am in this profession, then I have no issues about doing intimate scenes or donning a bikini,” Surveen said in an interview with PTI.

Finally, we saw Hate Story 3, which starred Zarine Khan and released in 2015. The film was a commercial success, though it was panned critically.  What we don’t know is that initially, Zarine was skeptical of doing the sort of bold scenes that are featured in the film. “When I was having difficulties convincing myself, I told my mother about it. She is the only person whose opinions matter to me in my life. So, I told her that I have been offered this movie and there are these bold scenes and if I should do it? And she said yeah, do it. What’s is the big deal? It’s there in every movie these days. That gave me the push. And she is right. In every movie nowadays we see such scenes where people are kissing. May be the way we have shown in ‘Hate Story 3’ is a little bolder but it has nothing that is not happening in any other films,” she said in an interview with Indian Express.

And now, this week, we’ll see Hate Story 4 starring Urvashi Rautela and Ihana Dhillon. We’d like to wish the film all the very best.
