As the world grows more open-minded, we get to see a wide range of shows that celebrate diversity and explore various cultures and territories. Shows on Netflix, Hotstar etc are getting more educational, often ditching the sensationalism for a more informed take on things. It probably helps that social media can be brutal to those who appropriate cultures and make racist or sexist comments. Just look at Roseanne.

Here are our picks for the best of 2018:

Stranger Things

The show which garnered mass appeal returned for a second season that held all the excitement, thrill and humour as the first one.

Pose

A pathbreaker in many ways, Pose speaks about the ball culture and the problems LGBTQ people face in their day to day lives. The characters in Pose are well-formed and the ride we share with them is truly a breathtaking one.

Sense8

We finally got the finale we deserved even though we wanted whole seasons of this iconic show. Sense8 will always hold a special place in our hearts because it taught us that we are connected to each other in more ways than one.

Dear White People

Informative, humorous and interesting as hell, Dear White People is a very pertinent show for our times.

Nanette

Not a show per se but a special by Hannah Gadsby, Nanette is an absolute must watch. It’s heartwrenching and will make you feel a multitude of emotions but if there’s one thing you watch this year, it should be Nanette.
