Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, Gully Boy is the film which has had the most cultural impact in North India in 2019. Now, the Zoya Akhtar directed movie has been nominated as India’s official entry to Oscars 2020.
The Indian Express reports that Gully Boy has been declared as India’s official entry for the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, earlier known as Best Foreign Language Film category.
Inspired by the real-life stories of Mumbai rappers, Divine and Naezy, the film deals with the life and times of rapper Murad who is portrayed by Singh. Bhatt plays his lady love in the movie. The film also stars Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Raaz in lead roles.
According to entertainment industry tracker, Ramesh Bala, the other Bollywood movies shortlisted for the award were Andhadhun, Kesari, Article 15, Badla and Badhaai Ho.
Not only was the film super successful at the Box Office, it also earned high praise from critics with reviewers appreciating its style, screenplay and of course, the hit discography.
