Netflix has just dropped a new teaser for Guillermo Del Toro’s latest horror project titled Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Initially titled ‘Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight,’ the anthology series pairs off several sinister stories from several seminal filmmakers. Here’s Netflix’s statement on the upcoming project:
“From macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, the eight sinister tales—including two original works by del Toro—will be brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by the Shape of Water filmmaker.”
The acting talent on show is a pretty great catch, with the trailer bringing up previously unannounced names such as Eric André, Sofia Boutella, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Kate Micucci, and Charlyne Yi.
Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint will also be making an appearance after his 2019 performance in Servant. The actor is also slated to appear in yet another horror flick in 2023, with M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin.
Each episode will begin with an introduction from Del Toro himself, who will be calling upon an impressive list of directors for each of the cabinet’s sinister offerings. Babadook director Jennifer Kent, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night director Ana Lily Amirpour, Mandy director Panos Cosmatos, Splice director Vincenzo Natali, Firestarter director Keith Thomas and others make this one of the most promising projects for horror fans across the world.
Curiously (pun intended), one of Del Toro’s offerings will be a dark retelling of the classic Pinnochio tale, while Disney is ready to roll out their latest remake within the same year.
Del Toro also gave a specific Twitter shoutout to his longtime collaborator, Oscar-winning director Guillermo Navarro. He reminded fans that his namesake was behind several iconic, chilling episodes of Hannibal and several other shows, and will be handling the Cabinet’s pilot episode.
Fans also took to Twitter en masse, excited to see what the horror masterclass has in store for us:
Unfortunately, fans were left wanting for a launch date, although the anthology is confirmed for a 2022 release.
