If you needed a reminder of bizarre yet beautiful our world can be sometimes, check out the trailer for Netflix’s new live-action Gudetama: An Eggcellent Adventure. If the egg pun didn’t give it away, the series follows the journey of a talking egg yolk named Gudetama and a freshly hatched chick named Shakipiyo, in an attempt to find their mother…a chicken.
The show was announced as part of Netflix’s Japanese Tudum event and is set to premiere, or rather drop on December 13. But before you get confused any further, Gudetama is a “kawaii” cartoon character who is essentially an egg yolk version of Garfield. While being depressed and lazy, he’s still adorable in his own way.
Gudetama became a popular icon across Japan a couple of years ago, making his first TV appearance in 2014 on a TBS TV program called Asa Chan! The series had a unique set of episodes, each lasting only for a minute, amassing over a thousand episodes by 2017.
The live-action Netflix adaptation will have a run of a total of 10 episodes and will feature real people interacting with the CGI-animated characters. Here’s what the internet has been saying about the adorable little egg yolk.
