Giancarlo Esposito Drops Another Big Hint Towards Possible Professor X MCU Casting
Giancarlo Esposito Drops Another Big Hint Toward Possible Professor X MCU Casting

Can an actor play both a remorseless drug lord and the greatest empath in the Marvel universe?

It’s the fan casting several MCU followers have been dreaming of this year — and with each passing event, the rumour mill picks up even more steam in favour of legendary Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito’s addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With the X-Men likely to join the MCU soon, it’s easy to see why fans are pretty hyped at the moment. Esposito himself has fed the rumours quite a bit at earlier events, with the recent Comic Con Chile 2022 being no exception.

According to a report from ComicBookResources, Esposito met a fan who requested that he sign a Funko Pop! collectable figure of the X-Men head honcho, Charles Xavier AKA Professor X. The actor — known for his friendly and approachable off-screen persona — agreed, laughing while he signed the statue. The bombshell came afterwards, as he concluded with, “See you on the big screen.”

This flared up a heated online discussion on Esposito’s inclusion into the MCU — which some fans are now taking for granted as a de-facto confirmation.

Some disagreed, however — with claims that Esposito was the wrong temperament or race to play the character:

Putting aside prejudiced opinions on his casting, Esposito himself has displayed massive interest in the role this year. He’s already confirmed to have had meetings with key Marvel executives about appearing in future projects and has already worked with Disney on The Mandalorian. He’s even publicly addressed wanting to play a host of Marvel characters, ranging from Doctor Doom to Magneto, and of course, Professor X.

In the meantime, fans of Esposito will be glad to know that his character of Moff Gideon will reappear as a key antagonist in the third season of The Mandalorian, which will arrive in February 2023.

“[Gideon] has an agenda all of his own. He’s been a warden of a certain part of the galaxy. He wants to bring all the other wardens together for what reason?” Esposito teased. “Why can’t he just live in peace in his own little piece of paradise? There’s gotta’ be a reason that he’s bringing all of them together because he must have an agenda of his own,” he shared during the 2022 Star Wars Celebration event.
