George RR Martin, the author of Game of Thrones, has revealed that the much awaited prequel to the show, will most likely be titled, “The Long Night”.
It was confirmed that and the script will be written by Jane Goldman, and that Naomi Watts and Burberry model, Josh Whitehouse will be playing the lead roles. Naomi’s character has been described as that of a “charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”
Martin also says in his blog, “The pilot is coming along well, with casting falling into place. I could tell you more, but I am not supposed to. We also have a couple of other successor shows still in development, but I cannot tell you about those either. Sorry.”
According to a report by The Wrap, “Taking place thousands of years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”
Since it takes place thousands of years before the events of A Song Of Fire And Ice, you can expect to not see any familiar faces pop up. But there will be one character who could make an appearance, The Night King. The Long Night refers to the longest winter that was ever seen in the history of Westeros, because of the White Walker’s first invasion. So viewers can definitely expect some long and epic battle episodes between the Children of the Forest and the White Walkers.
The shooting for the prequel is scheduled to begin in 2019, after the final season of Game of Thrones airs.
