Sanjay Leela Bhansali weaves magic with his work, and the audience has been excited to see what he has conjured up in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The upcoming film is the first project between Bhansali and Alia Bhatt— an actor who has impressed audiences with her performances in Highway, Raazi and Dear Zindagi. After a long wait and several delays, the film finally confirmed a release date of February 25th, 2022, and the makers shared the official trailer today.
The Alia Bhatt-starrer is an on-screen portrayal of the life of Gangubai from Kathiawadi who made herself a force to reckon with in the Kamathipura of the 1960s. The movie is also touted to be based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, written by S.Hussain Zaidi.
Here are three things we liked about the trailer:
Alia Bhatt’s Transformation
While Bhatt has films like Highway and Raazi in her kitty, this is the first time the actor has taken on such a powerful avatar. Essaying a real person is always a tough task, but she seems to have done a good job portraying the strong personality of Gangubai.
Vijay Raaz and Ajay Devgn’s Characters
Seeing Raaz on screen assures you that you are in for a treat, but you still are surprised with what he has to offer. In Gangubai Kathiawadi, the actor, once again, has something new to offer. He plays Raziabai, Gangubai’s nemesis, and makes his presence felt in the trailer.
Talking about Devgn, the actor looks convincing as Karim Lal, Mumbai’s infamous don. The audience loves the actor in action and the trailer holds great promise.
Background Score and Design
We cannot move on without mentioning the serene background score. Music is a salient feature of a Bhansali movie, and without any doubt, every scene has to look picturesque as well. But the filmmaker has outdone himself. The set up, the colours on the screen, the minute details about the characters and the sets will leave you mesmerised and wanting more.
Here’s What The Audience Is Saying About The Trailer:
Gangubai Kathiawadi will premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, which is being held from February 10-20. The film will hit the theatres on February 25.
