With the release of Spiderman: No Way Home, the Marvel hype train is showing no signs of slowing down. With Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness right around the corner, let’s just say things are about to get crazy. Like multi-dimension crazy. Which got us wondering, what is DC up to? As it turns out, the DC cinematic universe is about to go into overdrive itself. With not one, but four aces up its sleeves, the DC lineup does have the chance to turn the tide in its favour. Let’s take a look.
1) Peacemaker (Out on Hotstar)
James Gun’s Suicide Squad 2 had a lot of things going for itself. But for fans, the real highlight of the movie was John Cena’s Peacemaker. So, it wasn’t surprising when DC green-lit a live-action TV show based on the character, even before the release of Suicide Squad 2. But the best part is, the TV show has already made its debut in January. And without going into any spoilers, let’s just say DC has a hit on their hands.
2) The Batman – March 4, 2022
We already knew a Matt Reeves helmed Batman movie has been in the works for many years. But the hype finally kicked into the next gear, when Ben Affleck left the project and Robert Pattinson was signed on to play a young Bruce Wayne.
After debuting a very promising trailer, The Batman has easily become one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. Set in its own continuity, and outside of the mainline DC Extended Universe, Reeves’ Batman promises to tell a dark gritty tale of the caped crusaders early years.
3) Black Adam – July 29, 2022
Can you believe that the Black Adam movie was announced all the way back in 2014?! Initially, Johnson’s Black Adam movie was supposed to introduce us to Shazam. But things didn’t exactly pan out that way. Now, after a very, very long wait, the movie is finally coming out this year. While plot details are extremely thin right now, we know that the movie will introduce a brand new team, the Justice Society of America and new characters such as Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan).
4) The Flash – November 4, 2022
The world of DC is about to witness its own multiverse of madness, with the upcoming Flash movie. I know I know it sacrilege to use a Marvel reference to describe a DC movie. But if the rumoured plot details of The Flash movie are giving us any indication, let’s just say you can expect things are going to get much bigger than the recent Spiderman film. Based on the popular Flashpoint comic, the movie is set to introduce us to two Batmans – one played by Ben Affleck and the other by Michael Keaton. That brings our Batman tally to three this year. But who’s complaining.
5) Aquaman 2: December 16, 2022
After the phenomenal success of the first Aquaman movie, there was no doubt that DC will be green-lighting a sequel. The pair of James Wan, who’s also directed the first two Conjuring movies, and Jason Momoa is ready to up the ante with the sequel called ‘Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom.’ While we don’t have the exact plot details, the film is said to feature a complex story and more horror elements, around the creatures of the deep.
