Amidst rising tensions between India and China, the Indian government on Monday took the decision to ban 59 Chinese mobile applications including but not limited to, TikTok, Helo, WeChat, and Shein. This was done in a bid to counter and evaluate the threats these apps posed to the nation’s “sovereignty and security”.

In a press release, the government also stated that these apps are engaged in activities that are “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”

Now, according to a Filmfare report, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has released a statement urging actors to distance themselves from Chinese brands and products.

“We, therefore, request all not to endorse any Chinese brand in the wake of the ongoing tension between the two countries. It is an issue of a serious concern and we should all give utter priority to the safety and security of our Nation. For us, the “Nation comes First”. Hence, we appeal all to kindly refrain from promoting any Chinese products or related brands,” the statement read.
