Two actresses and one hero — a classic tried-and-tested casting combo that Bollywood can never tire of. And, well, history repeats itself in Govinda Naam Mera, which starts streaming on Disney+Hotstar today. The movie features Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles, with actors like Renuka Shahane, Amey Wagh, Sayaji Shinde, and Dayanand Shetty in the supporting panel. 

However, it now appears that the movie hasn’t struck a chord with scores of fans, who clearly expected more from this entertainer.

The film is directed by Shashank Khaitan, and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Production. The film was largely shot in Mumbai in 2021. The filming was a bumpy ride, given that Pednekar and Kaushal tested COVID positive, owing to which, the shoot had to be halted mid-way.

Advani might be a glamorous star, but comedy has always been an area of interest for the pretty actress. “Comedy is one of the most difficult genres and I think the first that I did comedy in was Good Newwz. And I feel it’s the one film that I have done the most comedy in. I have been very lucky that I had a co-actor like Diljeet because that did help, and even Akshay sir and Kareena. I feel it definitely helps you,” said Advani, further adding, ” You know there was a lot of timing in comedy and that’s what I have learned from them and I want to do more. You know there are very few films that have a female protagonist doing comedy. In the recent past, we have not had any out-and-out comedy for a female protagonist. It is always put on a male so I really hope that writers write better for a female protagonist to do more comedy.” 

On the other hand, Kaushal has been soaking up marital bliss with actress Katrina Kaif. They just celebrated their first year anniversary and went on a secret trip to the mountains. In a recent interview, Kaif revealed how Kaushal uses a special trick to put her to sleep. “Endearing is I think his joy for dancing and singing. Like the honest and pure joy and with just music in general. The joy he has when he dances is just one of the most beautiful things to see and the joy he has for singing, and he is a good singer. And many many times when I can’t sleep, I always ask him ‘can you please sing me a song’.”
