One of the most-awaited releases of 2022 aka Black Panther 2 hit the theatres today. While deceased actor Chadwick Boseman was first roped in to feature as T’Challa in the movie’s sequel as well, things took an unexpected turn after the world lost out on the legendary actor to colon cancer in 2020. Boseman’s untimely passing egged the makers on to conjure up the sequel in the form of a tribute to the icon, who had previously essayed the titular character with absolute perfection.
Actress Letitia Wright subsequently took on the mantle of Black Panther, after Boseman’s demise. Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Winston Duke also feature in key roles in the movie.
In a recent interview, Wright averred how the character bore several shades of her real-life personality. “When performing, Shuri and I share a parallel of emotions in this film. We’re both dealing with something that has broken our hearts in ways that were very painful. But we see the ways in which Shuri… she literally has to bite away at the things that are hurting her. So, she does that and we see how grief turns into strength,” stated the Guyanese-British actress.
Here’s What People Are Saying About The Movie:
The sequel sheds light on the Wakandans and their journey as they navigate their next chapter, in order to forge a new path for their kingdom.
Filmmaker Ryan Coogler recently enthused about how Shuri (played by Wright) had lost a ‘sense of self’ after the demise of her onscreen brother. “The main characters, their identities were kind of wrapped up around this man (T’Challa). Shuri, every day she was alive, had her brother. So, when she lost him, what we discovered while we were working on the script, was that she really lost her sense of self. She identified herself as this guy’s little sister, as his protector, and as the person who looks out for him. When she loses that, it makes her very unmoored. The tricky thing about it is that death comes for everybody, it’s the ultimate truth.”
