Yes, it’s official: Princess Diaries 3 will transpire into reality sooner than you think! The first installment of The Princess Diaries was released in 2001, followed by the subsequent release of the movie’s sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, in the year 2004. While fans waited with bated breath for long enough, there was no sight of the next installment post the second movie. Fast forward to the fag end of 2022, and recent reports have suggested that the third sequel is underway at Disney! The storyline has been penned by Aadrita Mukerji, who’s previously worked on shows like Quantum Leap, Supergirl, and Reacher.
The cast has not been confirmed as yet, but have left fans wondering if things would ever be the same just in case Anne Hathaway doesn’t return? Well, while Hathway had recently hinted at a strong possibility of her return to the series, we’re still keeping our fingers crossed.
“I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it. If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen,” said the Golden Globe Award actress.
Either Way, Fans Have Reacted Well To The Confirmation News Of Sequel 3
In part one, young Hathaway played the role of Mia Thermopolis, an American teenager. Mia’s life, however, changes beyond her comprehension upon learning that she’s an heir to the throne of Genovia. The gawky teen has to now change her ways and take over as the queen one day. The movie reportedly earned $165.3 million at the time of its release. The second installment shows Thermopolis being pushed to take on a rather challenging task: walk down the aisle in order to qualify for the throne. The royal affair gets complicated but managed to earn approximately $134.57 million at the global box office.
Speculations are rife that Debra Martin Chase, the producer of the first two installments, has been roped in to produce the third one as well. Melissa Stack, known for the screenwriting of The Other Woman and Godmother, has stepped in as the executive producer.
Hathaway was last seen in movies like The Witches, Locked Down, Armageddon Time, Ocean’s 8, and Interstellar.
