Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2 Starring Millie Bobby Brown And Henry Cavill Is Getting Mixed reviews
‘Enola Holmes 2’ Is A Mixed Bag According To Critics

A classic case of an underwhelming sequel?

Enola Holmes is set to return to our screens this November with a sequel. Ahead of its release, the first reviews have come out and the reception appears to be a mixed bag. Critics are calling the Millie Bobby Brown movie a step down from its predecessor, which in itself was plagued by average reviews.

Enola Holmes 2 follows Brown’s character as she tries to find a missing factory worker, only to discover the case is much bigger and more sinister than she first anticipated. Along with Brown, Henry Cavill is Sherlock Holmes, Enola’s older brother. Here’s what the official synopsis of the movie reads like – “Enola Holmes takes on her first case as a detective, but to unravel the mystery of a missing girl, she’ll need some help from friends — and brother Sherlock.”

In its initial impressions, IndieWire wrote: “Despite Enola’s desire to escape the shadow of her famous big brother, her film franchise fails to emerge from Sherlock’s lurking presence; in fact, it’s not at all clear that it’s even the intent. Co-star Henry Cavill makes for a dashing Sherlock and his scenes with Brown are adorable, but too much of the film is preoccupied with diving into his own life and profession (which has plenty of adaptations already, thanks).”

While Collider was much more positive towards the sequel emphasizing that it tries to avoid the same pitfalls many sequels fall into, writing “the story builds successfully on the first, emphasizing what made it work so well, but also allowing these things to grow beyond their origins” further adding “At just over two hours long, Enola Holmes 2 is tightly paced, leaving just enough breathing room for the characters to thrive and do what they do best. It is a film with a lot of moving parts, but not so many that the audience will lose track, and in that way, is a film deserving of a rewatch — or several.”

Netflix is yet to confirm the existence of a third movie. However, considering Brown and Cavill’s star power, we believe it is only a matter of time. For now, though, Enola Holmes 2 is set to return to our screens on November 4.
