Elvis stars Austin Butler as the legendary singer while Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to Tom Cruise’s 1896 film

Elvis Presley will remain an icon forever and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis is only making fans nostalgic about the era he lived in and the songs he gifted them. Starring Austin Butler in the titular role, the film has opened to a great response at the box office. The film is minting money and is now at the No. 1 spot at the box office, competing with Top Gun: Maverick. 

 

The Butler starrer is competing with Top Gun: Maverick to stay at the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office this week. The Elvis Presley biopic raked in $30.5 million on its debut in theatres, while the Top Gun sequel earned the same amount during its fifth week in theatres. 

With the additional $30.5 million, the Tom Cruise starrer has now earned a total of $521.7 million domestically. At the global box office, the film hit the $1 billion mark, making it a career-best for Cruise. Apart from these two films, Jurassic World: Dominion also followed suit with an additional $26.4 million, while The Black Phone is ranking at No. 4 with $23.3 million. Lightyear landed at the fifth spot, earning an additional $17.6 million this week.

 

Talking about Elvis, the film also stars Tom Hanks as Presley’s notorious manager, Colonel Tom Parker along with Olivia DeJonge, Alton Mason, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Dacre Montgomery, among others. The film released on June 24 in India.
