Seven years after Drishyam wowed audiences with excellent performances and a gripping, suspenseful story, fans have shared their excitement as the sequel’s trailer went live today –– teasing more details as the crime thriller saga continues to unfold.
Ajay Devgn reprises his role as Vijay Salgaonkar –– a quick-thinking family man willing to do anything to protect his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran) and daughter Anju (Ishita Dutta). Seven years –– in real and reel time after the first film, Inspector General Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) chases down Vijay once more, with the help of a new top cop played by Akshaye Khanna, who several fans described as the highlight of the upcoming film.
Seeking revenge, Tabu’s character pulls in the strings even more as we witness the Salgaonkars forced to outwit the Goa Police. Khanna’s character adds a calm, collected, and deadly contrast to Tabu’s fiery performance as the IG –– who now seemingly forces Vijay to record a confession towards the end of the trailer. We don’t know whether he’ll actually confess to the crime or not, and with the stakes higher than ever before, perhaps the story will end with Tabu on top after all.
The trailer repeatedly brings up the ‘October 2nd and 3rd‘ dates, which were central to the plot of the first film –– perhaps that offers a clue to first-time viewers, and to the ways in which Vijay will try to stay one step ahead of the cops all over again. It’s also interesting to watch the onscreen rivalry between Devgn and Khanna –– both of whom will appear against each other nearly 20 years after 2002’s Deewangee.
Abhishek Pathak returns to the directorial chair for this Malayalam remake –– a rare instance where fanbases have praised the filmmaker for elevating the actual source material that was directed and written by Jeetu Joseph back in 2021, which in turn was based on The Devotion of Suspect X, a Japanese novel by Keigo Higashino.
