Drake will be honoured with ‘Artist Of The Decade’ at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards.
The Scorpion rapper has broken a number of Billboard chart records, including having the most tracks in the top 10 of the Hot 100 songs chart. Drake first made his appearance on a Billboard chart in 2009 with his debut studio album, Thank Me Later, which debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart the following year.
The rapper celebrated the Artist of the Decade honour, in a series of posts on his Instagram Stories, saying he was “high on life.”
His win follows Eminem, who won for the 2000s, and Mariah Carey, who owned the ’90s. Drake also sets the bar at the Billboard Music Awards, holding the title of most BBMAs, with 27 wins. Billboard said it considers multiple factors while determining the winner of the Artist of the Decade award. They include factors such as chart performance, social media data and touring revenue. Taylor Swift came in at No. 2 on the list of Billboard’s top artists of the 2010s.
Drake also announced that the highly anticipated album, Certified Lover Boy, would come out in January 2021 but ended up postponing the album’s release, saying he was recovering from surgery.
He is set to receive the ‘Artist Of The Decade’ award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on May 23.
