Drake might be making the world dance to his tunes, but just like any one of us, he is a fan of classics. Backstreet Boys, the band we all grew up listening to, has a special place in the singer’s heart too. He talked all about it when he amazed the audience during Backstreet Boys’ performance in Canada as the honorary “sixth member” of the band.
Backstreet Boys are on their DNA World tour and were performing in Drake’s town in Toronto, Canada. The singer decided to surprise the band when he reached the stage to perform with them. He arrived on the stage to sing I Want It That Way, only to reveal that the song has a special meaning for him.
He revealed to the audience, “At 13 years old, I had a bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing, and she asked me if I would dance with her,” he said. “It was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and it was the first time I ever felt like, you know, I had a shot at being cool,” he added.
Howie Dorough from the band also queued in a couple of lines from the chorus of Drake’s 2013 hit Hold On, We’re Going Home. “Toronto, I want you to make some noise and I want you to sing this song as loud as you possibly can,” the singer told the crowd. “This is one of the greatest songs in music history. I’ll be on stage for it, I’ll try to sing along too.”
Coming back to Drake, his new dance album Honestly, Nevermind was the biggest hit of the year so far. He celebrated the release of the surprise album with back-to-back parties in Miami.
