Bringing back old classics like Ramayan and Shaktimaan seem to have done wonders for the national broadcaster, Doordarshan as it was catapulted into the league of the most-watched channel in India for the week ending April 3rd, BARC revealed on Thursday.
The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) said that this feat involved a nearly 40,000% jump in viewership in the evening and morning bands and was done despite a surge in viewership of private broadcasters.
Now, the public service broadcaster has launched a new channel which will be exclusively dedicated to the classics.
“To relive the nostalgia of your favourite memorable serials of Doordarshan, watch DD Retro,” the channel tweeted on Sunday.
Mythological epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, historical drama Chanakya, superhero series Shaktimaan, comedy-drama Shriman Shrimati and Shah Rukh Khan’s Circus are among the shows that have been brought back in the wake of the lockdown issues by the Prime Minister to battle COVID-19.
