Disney broke a major box-office milestone and crossed an all-time record for global ticket sales. Disney studios alone have made more money in the first seven months of 2019 than any other studio has made in a single year.
After this weekend, the company has surpassed $7.67 billion USD worldwide, smashing their own previously set achievement in 2016 with $7.61 billion USD.
Disney’s achievement is an accomplishment considering it’s still July and Disney’s Frozen 2, Maleficent sequel and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker yet to be released.
The studio’s remakes of The Lion King and Aladdin performed well at the box office, and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 brought in more than $900 million on its own.
A major part of that impressive number comes from the record-breaking success of Avengers: Endgame that pulled in more than $2.8 billion USD worldwide and surpassed Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time.
Disney has always been seen as one of the world’s leading film studios, but this achievement has helped etch themselves in cinema history.
