After the success of its first season, Netflix is set to release the second season of Delhi Crime on August 26. Ahead of its premier, the streaming platform dropped a minute-long teaser of the show, hinting that it’ll be focusing on the rise in crime “because of the economic inequality in society.”
The first season of the show was based on the backdrop of the infamous 2012 Delhi rape and murder case. Along with rave reviews from the critics, the show also became the first Indian production to have won an International Emmy in the ‘Outstanding Drama Series’ category.
The teaser of the second season doesn’t exactly mention what particular case it’ll be focusing on, but reports suggest that Shefali Shah as DCP Vartika Singh will be engaged in a cat and mouse chase with a serial killer. Starring alongside her will be familiar faces consisting of teammates Neeti Singh (Rasika Duggal) and Bhupendra Singh (Rajesh Tailang). Also reprising their roles will be Adil Hussain, Anurag Arora, Sidharth Bhardwaj and Gopal Dutt.
While the cast has remained unchanged, the upcoming season will now be directed by Tanuj Chopra, who will also serve as the showrunner, replacing Richie Mehta. Meanwhile, the writing room will consist of Mayank Tewari, Shubhra Swarup, Ensia Mirza, Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh and Virat Basoya.
Netflix India of late has been heavily focusing on true crime dramas. A couple of days ago, the OTT platform dropped the Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi miniseries, which has been receiving mixed reviews. Meanwhile, here’s how the internet has been reacting to the teaser.
