Part of a series of sequels no one asked for, there’s new a Jurassic Park movie playing in town. And this one, along with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, also sees the return of the movie’s OG members—Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum. Jurassic World: Dominion had the makings of a hit on paper, but it’s garnering disappointing reviews from the critics.
For those who have already forgotten what the last movie was about, or where the plot stands currently, here’s what the official synopsis of Jurassic World: Dominion reads: “The future of mankind hangs in the balance as humans and dinosaurs coexist following the destruction of Isla Nublar.”
Jurassic World: Dominion, which also wraps up the Chris Pratt trilogy, is currently sitting at 39 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, a number which appears to be going down as more reviews come in. For comparison, the original Jurassic Park stands at 92 percent, while its following sequels range from 50 to 70 percent. The last movie in the trilogy, Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom stands at 47 percent. If things are as they stand, Dominion may end up being the worst-rated movie of the franchise.
As expected, critics are taking a no holds barred approach when it comes to slamming the movie. For instance, a critic at Vanity Fair wrote, “Dominion mostly seeks to drag us along for its indulgent 150-minute run in the hopes that it will exhaust us into thinking we’ve been served a rich, satisfying meal.”
Meanwhile, folks at CinemaBlend gave the movie a ‘generous’ 1.5 star rating, saying “Jurassic World: Dominion reduces all of its legacy characters into blank sheets of paper walking through plot developments…”
While Time Out gave it 1 out of 5 stars, calling it “An extinction-level turkey, this stinker of a dino disaster movie plays like a Jurassic Park tribute band: you vaguely recognise the tunes, but it leaves you pining extremely hard for the original.”
People are not happy. The Colin Trevorrow helmed franchise (who served as an executive producer on the last one and directed the latest one) has been garnering widespread criticism for its lack of writing and convoluted plot points. Those who have seen the newest movie in the franchise have taken it to Twitter to voice their opinions. Here’s what they are saying:
