The Most Controversial Bollywood Memoirs
The Most Controversial Bollywood Memoirs

These autobiographies are as exciting and spicy as some popular Bollywood films.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui tweeted yesterday evening that he was withdrawing his book, and wanted to apologize to everyone whose sentiments were hurt because of the book. The main point of the controversy was his alleged affair with Miss Lovely co-star Niharika Singh, who issued a statement accusing Nawaz of using her name to sell more copies of the book.

“Nawaz and I had a brief relationship in 2009 during the making of Miss Lovely that lasted less than a few months. So today, when he paints me as a woman in fur enticing him into her bedroom with candles, or desperately calling him and mailing other women on his behalf, I can only laugh. He obviously wants to sell his book and it would appear that he is willing to exploit and disrespect a woman just to do so,” she said in a statement.

This is not the first time some explosive confession has been made in a Bollywood autobiography. Let’s take a look at some more such instances.

Karan Johar’s An Unsuitable Boy

In Karan Johar’s An Unsuitable Boy, the K2H2 and K3G director speaks about how his relationship with Kajol had turned sour. “I wouldn’t like to give a piece of myself to her at all because she’s killed every bit of emotion I had for her for twenty-five years,” Karan wrote about Kajol.

Dilip Kumar’s The Substance And The Shadow

“I must admit that I was attracted to her both as a fine co-star and as a person who had some of the attributes I hoped to find in a woman…,” Dilip Kumar wrote in his autobiography about Madhubala. An explosive confession that many had been waiting for, this prompted many people to buy the book.

Rishi Kapoor’s Khullam Khulla

The renowned actor Raj Kapoor, whose songs inspired you to be nice, actually indulged in infidelity. “I was very young when my father had an affair with Nargis ji, and so was not affected by it. I don’t remember feeling anything was amiss at home either. But I do remember moving into the Natraj Hotel on Marine Drive with my mom during the time Papa was involved with Vyjayanthimala. My mother had decided to put her foot down this time. From the hotel, we shifted for two months into an apartment in Chitrakoot. My father had bought the apartment for Mom and us. He did all he could to woo her back, but my mother wouldn’t give in until he had ended that chapter of his life,” he wrote.

Dev Anand’s Romancing With Life

Dev Anand’s autobiography is filled with juicy tidbits about the industry. For example, he speaks about the love that he had for Zeenat Aman and how he felt extremely jealous when Raj Kapoor cast her for Satyam Shivam Sundaram. “A hint of suspicion crossed my mind. A couple of days earlier, a rumour had been floating around that Zeenat had gone to Raj’s studio for a screen test for the main role in his movie. The hearsay now started ringing true. My heart was bleeding,” he wrote.
