The trailer of Chris Hemsworth starrer Thor: Love & Thunder was unveiled yesterday. From Thor’s journey after the events of Avengers: Endgame to adding a number of new characters, fans got access to it all. However, what was missing from the trailer was any hints about Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher in it.
Fans got to see a glimpse of Natalie Portman’s Thor-wielding Mjolnir and even a quick look at Russell Crowe’s Zeus, but there was no sign of Gorr. This could be a very clever marketing strategy of continuing the trend of revealing very little about Thor: Love and Thunder. Christian Bale’s Gorr being intentionally kept out the trailer is another way for the film’s marketing to subvert any anticipations about the plot.
This may also be a hint by the makers to establish that Gorr’s absence from the trailer may mean that he’s not Thor’s primary concern in the story. Thor: Love and Thunder will only focus on our lead character’s story and the passing of the responsibilities ( or the hammer) to Portman. Though Gorr’s absence disappointed fans who were hoping for a better look at Christian Bale’s MCU villain, everyone is intrigued to know how his character will factor into the story.
Twitter was abuzz with discussions about the same with Christian Bale trending all over. Fans expressed their disappointment towards not being able to spot Gorr in the trailer. They discussed the possibilities of why this decision was taken while also discussing the Easter eggs in the trailer.
Check out a few tweets:
A Screen Rant report asserted that Gorr will have a tragic back story in the film.
In the comic, the Marvel supervillain is born on a planet with no name. He is a faithful believer of God until he loses his parents, wife, and children because of starvation. He then plans revenge against the Gods and murders his first God after finding a weapon called All-Black, the Necrosword. In the comic, he arrives on Earth where he meets Thor and tortures him to extract information about the Asgardians. Christian Bale’s bald look has already become a hit amongst his fans.
We’re hoping that by July, we’ll get a closer look at the villian. Thor: Love and Thunder opens on July 8th, 2022.
