The Oscars may have happened months ago, but Will Smith’s infamous slap continues to be a topic of discussion among people. Recently, Smith took to social media to post an apology video for Chris Rock. In the clip, the actor explained why he did not apologise to the actor during his speech and how the whole incident affected him.
“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” Smith says in the video. “There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults,” the actor said, adding that his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, never urged him to charge at Rock. The actor mentioned that Rock is not ready to talk about the incident or sort things out.
The video was posted by Smith over the weekend and it went viral in no time. While fans appreciated the move, many wondered if Chris Rock has apologised to Pinkett Smith, too. At the event, he had poked fun at her for having a shaven head, even though Pinkett Smith has openly spoken about her struggle with alopecia.
Here’s what people tweeted:
Chris Rock indirectly discussed the video during a show that took place at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. He said “Everybody is trying to be a f**ing victim. If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims. Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith … I went to work the next day, I got kids.” Suge Knight, the founder and former CEO of west coast label Death Row Record has a long-standing reputation for aggressive behaviour.
Earlier, making fun of the controversial Oscar slap, Kevin Hart gifted Rock a goat named Will Smith. “You have to keep the goat. I bought you the fucking goat,” Hart had said. To which Rock had replied, “I have an apartment, Kevin. They barely let niggas in there.”
