There are roles that are memorable and referenced in our daily conversations and then there is Monica Geller. Courteney Cox’s portrayal of the chef with the obsessive-compulsive nature shot her into the limelight and continues to be her most famous role till date. Cox, along with her female co-stars, reportedly earned US$1 million-per-episode for the final two seasons of Friends.
That’s hard to top, right? When your character has been so strongly etched into the public conscience and when everything you say and do is compared to the behavioural patterns of the character in a television show, what more can you do with your career? Is it the end, then?
Not really.
While the actress did star in a few not-so-memorable films post Friends, she did play the role of a newly single 40-year-old mother in the ABC series Cougar Town. Many would agree that this is her most notable work after Friends. Not only was Cougar Town loved by critics and fans alike, it also got Cox her first Golden Globe nomination.
Then, of course, there were guest appearances in Lisa Kudrow’s Web Therapy and Matthew Perry’s Go On and while it was great to see familiar faces come together, we were all really hoping for that total and absolute Friends reunion. If wishes were horses . . .
And all this was in front of the camera – Cox did pursue off-camera roles as well. In 2004, she and her then-beau David Arquette launched their production house, Coquette Productions. Catchy name apart, the production house was behind Cougar Town and a number of other films and shows.
And we’ve saved the most adorable news for the last – if news from the buzz is to be believed, Cox is all set to marry her Snow Patrol fiancée Johnny McDaid today! Buzz.ie reports that her Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston is expected to be her Maid of Honour. Ed Sheeran features prominently in this fairytale too, after all, he’s the one who introduced the pair way back in 2013.
