A feature adaptation of a popular book is something that always excites the audience, and so is the case with Shantaram. Based on Gregory David Roberts’ 2003 novel that goes by the same name, the Apple TV series will star Charlie Hunnam in the lead role. After teasing fans with the first look recently, an intriguing trailer has been unveiled to thrill fans even more.
The trailer introduces the audience to Hunnam’s character – Lin Ford. He is a convict who lands in Bombay to keep himself out of prison. It is a “place where everyone started new,” and Ford finds his redemption in helping the underprivileged. Antonia Desplat stars as his love interest, and you can speculate that something mysterious is brewing between them. The trailer leaves you guessing and wanting more.
Many fans took to Twitter to share their views on the trailer. “Been waiting for this ever since I read the book more than a decade ago, with a movie adaptation announced with names like Johnny Depp, Amitabh Bachchan & Mira Nair attached…I guess that didn’t happen but still, SO looking fwd to this,” wrote a user. Fans seem clearly very excited to watch the series.

Along with Hunnam and Desplat, the series boasts of an ensemble cast of Shubham Saraf, Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi, Luke Pasqualino, Alyy Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Vincent Perez, David Field, Alexander Siddig, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Elham Ehsas, Rachel Kamath, Matthew Joseph, and Shiv Palekar.
Apple Tv’s Shantaram is co-created, written, and executive produced by Steve Lightfoot. He also serves as showrunner. The 12-episodic series will stream globally on October 14. The first three episodes will release on October 14, followed by a new episode every Friday. The season finale will premiere on December 16.
