Ten years ago, the compelling and poignant film, Slumdog Millionaire garnered the attention of global audience. Loosely based on the novel, Q & A, this film was lauded by critics and the audience. Thus, this film has managed to break barriers and make its mark.
This British drama, directed by Danny Boyle went on to receive ten nominations at the 81st Academy Awards, out of which this film won eight trophies. The movie won Academy Awards for Best Film, Direction, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing and Sound Mixing.
AR Rahman hit the jackpot with this film, since he made history by becoming the first Indian to win two Oscars, for his score, and one for thr song Jai Ho along with Gulzar. More importantly, this was a big win for Indian music, putting it on the global map.
At a recent event in Mumbai, few celebrities including AR Rahman, Anil Kapoor, Alka Yagnik and Gulzar gathered to celebrate the 10 of years of this film.
Kapoor candidly recalls having a tiff with his wife, just before the 2009 Oscars. The actor has since dazzled us with his unique performance in this film, breaking for his stereotypical projects. Whereas, A R Rahman was busy starving himself to look thin on the big night. The music director has moved on past the shadow of winning two Oscars, he claims that his victory has given him recognisition.
This event took place in Dharavi, as an ode to this film where the movie was orginally shot.
