Deepika Padukone would not be the only highlight of this year’s Cannes 2022 Film festival for fans. Akshay Kumar, AR Rahman amongst other celebs will also be walking the red carpet on the opening day of the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Shekhar Kapur and Pooja Hegde are also a part of the Indian contingent and will be seen on the red carpet.
Apart from Kumar and Rahmnan, the guest list includes names like folk singer Mame Khan, actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nayanthara, Tamannaah Bhatia and Vani Tripathi, two-time Grammy winning composer Rickey Kej, and CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi. R Madhavan will also be walking the red carpet as he is all set for his directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect to have its market screening on May 19.
Billed as one of the most prestigious film galas across the globe, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recently stated that the red carpet event will be a gala event for Indian audiences. Last week it was also announced that India will be the official country of honour at the Marche Du Films also called Cannes Film Market, which is held on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, which begins on May 17. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, will lead the delegation in Cannes.
India will also showcase five movies in the ‘Goes to Cannes’ Section. These movies include Baghjan (Assamese, Moran) by Jaicheng Zxai Dohutia, Bailadila (Hindi, Chhattisgarhi) by Shailendra Sahu, Ek Jagah Apni (Hindi) by Ektara Collective, Follower (Marathi, Kannada, Hindi) by Harshad Nalawade and Shivamma (Kannada) by Jai Shankar.
The Cannes 2022 Film Festival’s competition jury that will unveil the Palme d’Or honours will include Deepika Padukone with a jury led by Vincent Lindon along with Rebecca Hall, Joachim Trier, Jeff Nichols and Jasmine Trinca among others.
