Cameron Diaz Is ‘Back In Action,’ Literally

Diaz will be seen alongside Jamie Foxx for the upcoming Netflix action-comedy

To all the Cameron Diaz fans out there, we have some good news! The 49-year-old actor who officially retired from Hollywood back in 2018, is now making a comeback. Diaz will be seen alongside Jamie Foxx for an upcoming Netflix action-comedy, appropriately named ‘Back in Action.’

Back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, Diaz was one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood, after making her debut opposite Jim Carrey in ‘The Mask’. She went onto star in a string of successful movies like ‘My Best Freind’s Wedding,’ ‘There’s Something About Mary,’ ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ and ‘Shrek.’

Diaz and Foxx have previously worked together on two projects — 1999’s Any Given Sunday and 2014’s Annie, which also marked Diaz’s last role before retiring. The news was shared by Foxx on his Twitter feed, with an audio recording from a phone call with Diaz, who herself seems to be lost for words, saying “I don’t know how to do this, you know?”

On the phone call, Fox took the help of NFL legend Tom Brady, who knows a thing or two about unretiring. Brady, who announced his retirement early this year returned to the game mere 40 days later. A fact that Foxx brought up saying “I was talking to Jamie and he said you needed a few tips on how to un-retire. I’m relatively successful at un-retiring.”

Later, Diaz took to Instagram to confirm the news, writing  “Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!! I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!”

As far as the movie is concerned, it’ll be helmed by Seth Gordon and written by Brenden O’Brien of the ‘Horrible Bosses’ and ‘Neighbours,’ respectively. Foxx himself is attached as a producer, along with Beau Bauman of ‘Central Intelligence’ serving as a producer. While plot details are thin right now, production is set to begin later this year.
