BTS released their latest single Dynamite. The new English-language track from the K-pop group was dropped at midnight on August 21. More than 3 million viewers immediately tuned in at premiere time.
The new music video from BTS counted 101.1 million views within 24 hours of its release, YouTube confirms to Billboard, making it the music video with the biggest first-day debut to date. This surpasses the previous record holder Blackpink.
In addition, it is the first video in YouTube history to earn over 100 million views in a 24 hour period. This is not the first time that the group has achieved this record. Back in 2018, the group earned the title with their song ‘Idol’, which garnered 45.9 million views. The second time they held the record was with a collaboration with Halsey. ‘Boy With Luv’ earned 74.6million views.
BTS first teased the new single back in July. “We are preparing an album for the second half of this year,” they said at the time, on Korean broadcasting app V Live, “but decided to first release a single because we wanted to reach our fans as soon as possible. Due to COVID-19, people around the world have been going through tough times and we wanted to share some positive energy with our fans.”
