Britney Spear’s battle for conservatorship has received a lot attention in the last couple of months, all thanks to the documentary, Framing Britney Spears. Spears is said to have a tense relationship with her father, Jamie Spears, and has often expressed her desire to remove him as an authority over her finances. In a new move, her lawyers will now be filing a petition to get Jodi Montgomery, her temporary conservator, to be appointed as her permanent conservator. The case had a remote hearing on March 18, and the next hearing is scheduled for April 27, 2021.

Licensed conservator, Montgomery, was appointed as the short-term conservator of the singer’s personal affairs after her father stepped down from the position due to health issues. The pop singer’s attorney, Samuel Ingham, also confirmed the news during a court hearing and said that he will be filing the petition soon. The hearing on March 18 was held after Spears alleged that her father had spent over $300,000 of her money without her knowledge, as part of her conservatorship.
Jamie Spears’ lawyer, Vivian L. Thoreen, earlier assured the singer’s fans that her father has the superstar’s best interests at heart, and she can work with her own attorney to end the conservatorship at any point of time. “Any time Britney wants to end her conservatorship, she can ask her lawyer to file a petition to terminate it; she has always had this right, but in 13 years, has never exercised it,” the attorney said in a statement to People.
